While I was in FL and HI...

This doesn't really belong on this blog...but neither does it belong to my food nor my art blog. So, here goes...

This past January I started my long overdue renovation of my awful 1/4 century old kitchen. The hideous 70's cabinets, non-wokring stove, and lamenated floor, are now in their rightful place: garbage heaven. Like all projects, budgets overruns...this project is no exception. However, I have found some really good deals here and there. I am no cook, but I was certainly tempted to buy expensive kitchen appliances such as Viking and Wolfe. But I held back and settled with GE Profile instead.

I did the design of this kitchen and am quite proud of it. The major aspect of this renovation is the demolition of the wall from my kitchen to the dining room. This really opens up my entire place...making everything look a lot bigger.

Another aspect I am very proud of is the lighting design. I've spent a hefty amount of money to get the lighting right...it has lots of options and combinations, allowing the kitchen to have flexibility to create moods or to provide functionality. The three showcase fixtures are the LBL Icicle low voltage fixtures... choosing this fixture was probably the most difficult aspect of the entire kitchen design.

In the past, I have been hesitant to invite friends over for dinner or to host a party... now I can do it. But with my lack of any gift in cooking, I can probably only host potluck dinners. This renovation business is so addicting... I am now thinking of doing the living room next!!! Ka-ching, ka-ching...
